Will Larson

Software Development Engineer, BatchBlue Software, LLC

Will Larson is a freelance software development engineer based in Seattle, WA. Like many BatchBluers, Will began his tech journey at Amazon.com, where he built software for Customer Service, Supply Chain and the Catalog group. Will enjoys making software that is intuitive and easy to use.

In 2005, Will returned to school to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. Prior to joining BatchBlue, he was with Seattle-based jobster.com, where he worked as a programmer/analyst and focused on report writing for client services and business development.

When Will is not programming, he’s shooting baskets, working on his new old house, or plotting his next beach vacation to San Diego or Hawaii. We at BatchBlue were happy to say “Aloha” to Will when he recently joined the team to help out with some tech work and special projects.

See Will’s posts on the BatchBlog.

A Little More About Will

Favorite tech gadget:
I recently got an iPhone and that's got to be #1, but one you might not have heard about is the Squeezebox. It plays music off your local network on your stereo. In my case I have a bunch of music on my computer’s hard drive and also a Rhapsody account for streaming music online. When I lived in an apartment my computer was my stereo, but after moving into a house I wanted something to play my music both upstairs and downstairs. Squeezebox fit the bill, check them out at www.slimdevices.com.
What are some of your favorite small businesses?:
The Robot Co-op: These guys have several sites but my favorite is 43 Places. You can keep track of places you’ve visited or would like to visit in the future. It’s fun to just browse and discover new destinations that others have written about and/or posted photos of. Verite Coffee: I spend 2-3 hours a day working from this cafe. The coffee and cupcakes are great, but the casual vibe and free wifi are what make it my favorite virtual “office”.
What tab or feature would you be on BatchBook and why?:
The Dashboard. I like to start each day by visiting my todo list, taking some time to focus in on a few tasks and prepare for upcoming ones.
The website you’re most likely to be on when you’re not on BatchBook:
I like to read the BBC for world news.
Most surprising fact about yourself:
That I own a ’66 Volvo has got to be a surprise to most. For someone who frequently ponders not owning a car at all, a high maintenance car probably doesn’t make a lot of sense. My father always helped with my first car in high school. Working on my car now brings back fond memories of those times with him.
If not a computer geek, I would have been a:
High School basketball coach. In a smaller town that’s probably what I’d be doing, but in Seattle I got swept up by the 90s tech craze and haven’t looked back. It might still happen, but not anytime soon.
